Pathways/Senderos Center
The Pathways/Senderos Center, a program of Greater New Britain Teen Pregnancy Prevention, Inc., in New Britain, CT, is a successfully evaluated program that serves boys and girls, ages 10-18, from the inner city poverty-stricken, high-risk Arch Street area. Our mission is to eliminate teen pregnancy by addressing its root causes, assuring high school graduation, and promoting adult self-sufficiency. We provide long-term, comprehensive, holistic services by creating a parallel family structure with neighborhood youth and parents. Our program model includes six integrated components: academic support; career preparation; family life and sex education; recreation/lifetime sports; health care; and self-esteem enhancement.
We are looking for volunteers to perform such diverse duties as fundraising, grant-writing, advocacy, and assisting with special events. We are also looking for volunteers to work directly with our youngsters: mentoring; tutoring in such areas as reading, math, and science; and leading groups in such activities as arts & crafts, cooking, investment clubs, graphic design, etc. The most important qualification we have for our volunteers is that they are caring and passionate individuals.

National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) Job Opportunity
Since 1969, the National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) has gathered information about the educational achievement of U.S. students to aid legislators, educators, and others in improving the educational experience of America's young people. Students in grades 4, 8, and 12 in public and non-public schools are assessed.
NAEP has part-time opportunities for retired teachers and administrators as Assessment Administrators. The primary role of the AA is to conduct the assessment sessions to groups of approximately 30 students. Each session lasts about one hour and a half. This year the field period is January 26- March 6, 2009. AAs should be available to work 20 hours per week and are reimbursed for travel and assessing. To work on NAEP (also known as Our Nation's Report Card), candidates must successfully complete a one day in-person training session.

Co-opportunity, Inc., located in Hartford, CT, works to make stable financial futures happen for our low-moderate income families every day and we could really use your expertise, or simply your drive to help others to make what we do that much better! We encourage volunteers to use what is uniquely theirs when selecting a volunteer experience, and we have several exiting options from which to choose. Youth Build is currently seeking 4 volunteers to tutor between the hours of 8am and 12noon in the areas of reading and math.
If reading and math tutoring are not for you, how about assisting a family one-on-one to develop a working budget or becoming a greeter or tax preparer at one of our 14 free tax sites. We provide FREE training, and where applicable, the curriculum, to be a part of the Budget Coaching or Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs, so no experience is necessary. Join us for any of these rewarding opportunities and use your unique skills, talents and interests to give working families the tools they need to build bright financial futures.
